Life Is A Journey - When Did Yours Begin?

Life is A journey. Not A destination.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

My personal life began over 50 years ago in a small village in a remote part of Kenya.

Life was simple then. Our small homestead spoke more about our humble background than it did our Destiny. With nothing much going on except for a small house, a small farm and a few goats grazing by, after which my mother would send me to follow to ensure they didn't get lost, life did not have any particular meaning or direction.

Sometimes, I would be unable to find the goats. When this happened I would go back home crying because I had no idea that perhaps the damn goats would be grazing somewhere behind a thicket. I was still very young to even think about it.

Then I became very sick and my life suddenly took a new turn. There were no hospitals near our village, the nearest hospital being more than 40 miles away, which meant I had to be urgently transferred to the coastal town of Mombasa where my father worked.

Further treatment turned out to be hospitalization for 2 and a half years. By then we had already become residents in Mombasa. This was to become my residence for the next 14 years. It is there where I attended primary school and it is there where two of my sisters were born.

Then things took another turn as I went to attend high school in the Capital, Nairobi. I was fortunate to get a decent job as computer operator with a large multinational firm. Those days, getting a decent-paying, secure job was considered a privilege.

I changed jobs several times until I landed a lucrative job in another multinational company. I worked hard and got promotion after promotion, rising through the ranks to the position of Senior Financial Accountant.

By 2004, I had had enough of jobs. This time I decided to quit jobs for good and start my own business.

As they say, the rest is history...

Looking back, I now believe with all my heart that all this was orchestrated by Destiny.

Destiny is a force to reckon with. So powerful that you cannot escape it no matter how hard you try.

Ironically, every human being on the face of the earth; young or old, male or female, rich or poor,  is seeking Destiny.

I have not yet arrived at my destination, but I'm sure that my own journey is drawing me there - one step at a time...

The Chinese proverb:

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" by Laozi, could never be further from the truth.

When did your journey begin?
